When Miley Cyrus' song, Party in the U.S.A.,
was released in August of 2009, it was a jam. It was ranked on the top
ten charts from eight different countries, and even landed the number
two spot on Billboard's Hot 100 list that year. Additionally, it was
(and still is) Miley's best-charted single, and even sold 4.5 million
copies as of April, 2011, thereby certifying it as a quadruple platinum
album by the Recording Industry Association of America. But people loved
it so much that they did way more than just listen to it on the radio.
In fact, Jimmy Fallon posed
as Neil Young and performed it with David Crosby and Graham Nash on his
late night show. The song was also sampled in an Andrew Hathaway remix,
where it was brilliantly spliced together with Biggie Smalls' Party & Bullshit. Furthermore, during an episode of the sixth season of NBC's The Office, Ed Helms' character of Andy Bernard and Ellie Kemper's character of Erin Hannon parodied it, and it was of course the inspiration to a Weird Al Yankovic track called Party in the C.I.A.
But it seems while we've all been busy loving the song, Miley Cyrus has been trying to forget about it. The New York Post reports that when Miley was at a party for Topshop in a club in Chicago on Wednesday, the DJ (DJ Kiss to be exact) asked the Disney star if there were any of her own tracks that she'd like to hear that night. Miley apparently openly requested her song, Can't Be Tamed, be blasted out of the speakers, but made sure to emphasize that DJ Kiss was not to play Party in the U.S.A. The DJ obeyed orders, and Miley was left alone to swing her hips "seductively" in front of her boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth. So, does this mean we're not to listen to Party in the U.S.A anymore? Ugh, does Miley have any idea how long it's going to take us to come up with another excuse to ride a mechanical bull at a bar?
